ENACTUS FREDONIA MEETS WITH VISITING DELEGATION FROM NIIGATA UNIVERSITY

Students representing SUNY Fredonia’s chapter of Enactus met with representatives from Japan’s Niigata University in November. The meeting was able to clarify the purpose of Enactus which is to use positive business practices to improve the quality of living for those in needs and build a better and sustainable world

The delegation from Niigata toured Fredonia’s campus on November 6, 2012 to learn about how the college engages with the community. The Enactus team was able to discuss the many projects being undertaken that target three pillars: social, economical, and environmental action to create sustainable relationships with the community.The dialog began to foster a relationship between the two universities, both interested in community engagement.

Throughout the school year, various projects will affect many segments of the community including local businesses as well as elementary and high schools in Fredonia and Dunkirk. These projects will promote several different messages; anti-bullying, drunk driving, recycling, going green, and youth leadership programs which will all seek to help the community in different ways.

“The Niigata representatives walked away with a very positive impression of Fredonia, especially how students are able to use the skills being learned in the classroom setting in a professional, business manner,” says Chad Allen, one of the members of SIFE who was facilitating the meeting. As Enactus is an international organization, Fredonia hopes to form an alliance with Niigata to help broaden the organization to the Japanese campus.
